Stacey Clayton, the newest Canadian indie artist whose lyrical integrity along with her refreshing voice have made her a promising and exciting new talent.
In May 2009, she teamed up with producer / engineer Sean Croley (Lead singer of the CGMA nominated group "The Weak Need") and recorded a demo, entitled "Hears Me", the initial offering containing three of Staceys original songs: "Angels Love Song," "Save Me," and "Lost in Light."
Sean heard Stacey sing at Wilmot Center Missionary Church shortly after he began to attend there. He was drawn in by the immense talent Stacey had, not just as a songwriter; he was also consumed by the sound of her voice, which he still refers to as "full of innocent conviction." Sean immediately offered her a fantastic opportunity believing that she had phenomenal potential; he would pay for her to do a demo at his studio (IIdB) with no expense, and no risk. "I knew she had something but I wasn't sure she honestly realized it yet," says Croley. "I was there once, where she was, and I know that all she needed was an opportunity like this, and I wanted to do that for her."
Together, they embarked to uncover..."HEARS ME"
Stacey explains her three songs:
Angels Love Song - I was asked to write a song for the Christmas Eve service at my church in 2007. When I was writing, I was trying to portray the night of Christ's birth from the perspective of Angels, who were watching what Christ was doing for his people. Christ was sacrificing himself in this amazing act of love, and the people in Jerusalem were sleeping. I imagined the Angels so overcome with the beauty and significance of Christ's actions that they could not keep quite, but had to burst out and start rejoicing.
Save Me - I was inspired to write Save Me after the Tsunami in 2004. The song is really a cry for help from physical, spiritual, and emotional storms, and I focus on both the destructive and healing nature of water. The song comes from the spirit of the the psalms, in that, it begins with a cry for help, and finishes with reaffirmed faith.
Lost in Light - This song was created to be a love song between the believer and Christ. I was inspired by images of light found within the Bible, in particular, Moses' encounter with God and the burning bush. I imaged that such an intimate encounter in God's spirit would feel like being lost in light. I also focus on Christ as "the light" who continually breaks through the darkness and confusion within daily life.
